I'm a Unix systems administrator with a strong focus on Linux, particularly Red Hat. I've had several different jobs so far, including a long stint of contract work which exposed me to a variety of work environments.
This is not the part where I talk about my particular qualifications; those were linked off the front page. As the moribund tech field in my area has recently evinced some signs of life, I've been getting a few more cold calls; my intent with this page is to avoid having to repeat myself. :)
As sysadmin gigs go, my current position is awesome for me. It fulfills pretty much all of my requirements, even the ones I didn't know I had; I have a tough time envisioning a sysadmin job that would be more suited to my work habits and temperament. As such, I am disinclined to leave it. If you would like me to leave my current position and come work for you, or anything like that, please make sure that at least one, and preferably more than one, of the following conditions are met:
You are looking for me specifically (not just someone like me); there is some reason why I myself am the best choice for your project. I should add that if you don't know me personally, and I don't know you (or we don't at least have a good friend in common), it is extremely unlikely that you will be able to meet this condition.
The position is particularly relevant to me and to my long-term goals; I don't mean goals in some generic sense, like "make enough money to feed my family" or "maybe someday retire", but rather some of the specific ideas that I have about how I'd like the future course of my life to run. I have not posted those goals here or written them in my resume; again, if you don't know me well enough to have some idea of what these are, I suspect that your chances of being able to meet this condition are not good.
The position is not in systems administration. Given how good for me my current gig is, and given my aversion to needless change, you're going to have a very tough time persuading me that I will enjoy your particular sysadmin job more than I enjoy my current sysadmin job unless you can meet one or both of the above conditions. If you can't do that, then your best bet is to offer me a position in a different field, one that perhaps makes use of the attributes that I don't get to exercise so often in my present employment.
I hope these conditions are helpful to you; ideally, I'd like for both of us to avoid wasting our time. If you do indeed think that you can meet one or more of the above conditions, by all means drop me a line. :)
